HOW TO CHOOSE INVESTMENT OPTIONS

Your investment choice has a significant impact on your retirement income. Remember that your super has to fund a retirement income for 20-40 years. Choose diversified super investment options to provide for short term needs and also long-term growth.

Things you can do

      • Understand investment risk vs. return
Risk describes the likelihood that your investment will earn less than expected - or even drop in value. Return is the rate by which your investment increases or decreases.

      Personal factors to consider

      • Your investment timeframe (short, medium or long term)
      • When you intend to draw on your super savings
      • Your attitude to risk (are you willing to bear more investment volatility for expected long-term return, or would you prefer a more stable return from year to year?)

      Frequently Asked Questions

        • Why am I asked to choose an investment option?
Generally when you join Vision Super you will be asked to make an investment choice. This is because your super account is linked to the investment market. You are essentially choosing the types of asset classes you want your super to be invested in. If you do not make a choice, your super is automatically invested in the Balanced Growth investment option.
        • What is an asset class?
An asset class is a type of asset that people invest in with the expectation that it will grow in value over time. E.g. Cash, Bonds and Shares, which can have very different behaviours. Most investment options are usually made up of varying proportions of some or all of these asset classes.
