At the end of the 2007/08 financial year, investment returns were, as expected, the lowest the finance industry has seen in a long time.
Over the last 4 years superannuation fund members have enjoyed strong double digit returns off the back of a strong world economy and stock markets at record levels. It's natural to feel concerned when markets are down, but it's important to remember that super is a long-term investment and the markets should eventually recover.
The markets have gone down this year and the majority of Vision Super investment options will have low or negative returns for the year....but please don't panic. Vision Super is a long-term investor and when we design investment options, we expect that returns will go down from time to time as share and property markets fluctuate.
A period of short-term negative returns does not mean that an investment option will not be successful over the long-term.
While nobody is happy reporting low or negative returns, Vision Super has actually performed extremely well relative to other super funds.
We've prepared a series of questions and answers that we hope will give you answers to any questions you may have about your investments.
