Generation's investment approach aims to deliver superior investment returns by integrating sustainability research into fundamental equity analysis. This is based on the idea that sustainability factors—economic, environmental, social and governance criteria—will drive a company's returns over the long term.
Generation’s global research platform focuses on key drivers of global change, including climate change and environmental degradation; poverty and development; water and natural resource scarcity; pandemics and healthcare; and demographics, migration and urbanization. These global challenges pose risks and opportunities that can materially affect a company's ability to sustain profitability and deliver returns.

The United Nations Principles of Responsible Investment (UNPRI)

The United Nations Principles of Responsible Investment (UNPRI) are a response to the growing worldwide concern about environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues which can affect the performance of investment portfolios. The UNPRI currently has 743 members which are made up of asset owners, investment managers and professional service partners. The UN PRI is a set of 6 voluntary and aspirational Principles which are expected to assist in achieving enhanced long-term financial performance as well as aligning the interests of investors with those of society as a whole.

The 6 Principles are:

  1. We will incorporate ESG issues into investment analysis and decision-making processes.
  2. We will be active owners and incorporate ESG issues into our ownership policies and practices.
  3. We will seek appropriate disclosure on ESG issues by the entities in which we invest.
  4. We will promote acceptance and implementation of the Principles within the investment industry.
  5. We will work together to enhance our effectiveness in implementing the Principles.
  6. We will each report on our activities and progress towards implementing the Principles.

Our UNPRI membership gives us a framework to incorporate and address ESG issues. By signing to the UNPRI, we make a commitment to the six principles which provide a course of possible action for incorporating ESG issues into mainstream investment decision making and ownership practices.  Applying these principles should not only lead to a better long term returns but also a closer alignment between the objectives of institutional investors and those of society at large.
