The government has tried to sell superannuation changes in the last Budget as only affecting the rich – but they will negatively affect both ordinary Australians with average balances who want to transition to retirement and defined benefit scheme members.
There have also been a lot of stories circulating about possible further changes to superannuation.
At Vision Super, our members’ best interests are at the heart of everything we do, so we felt we needed to step up our lobbying efforts on behalf of our members who will be negatively affected by the government’s changes.
We have visited Canberra twice, to talk to Senators, political advisers and journalists, and are planning to continue these efforts. Vision Super has been featured in the media including The Australian, The New Daily, news.com.au and most recently the Herald Sun.
We will keep lobbying for our members both in Canberra and through the media at every opportunity – we do not believe the changes are in the best interests of our members (or of public policy more broadly) and we will do what we can to prevent further detrimental changes.
The federal budget is coming up in May, and if there are changes that affect your super we’ll keep you informed and I will continue to advocate for you in Canberra.
Australians work hard and deserve security about their retirement savings, not constant changes from the government.
