Grow your super with spouse contributions
Your spouse can make contributions to your account no matter what you earn, but if you're on a low income, they get a special rebate.
If your assessable income is less than $37,000 and your total superannuation balance on 30 June of the previous financial year is below the general transfer balance cap ($1.6 million in 2017–18), your spouse can contribute up to $3,000 into your account each year and receive a tax offset of 18% of their contribution, up to $540. If you earn less than $40,000, your spouse can still receive a partial rebate on their contribution.
Your spouse simply has to BPAY the super contribution into your account (or send us a cheque), and claim the rebate via their tax return.
Please be aware that contribution caps apply to the amount of contributions you are allowed to receive in your super each year. For more information see the ATO website.
